First Major Transportation Hub in Region to Adopt a Comprehensive Alerting Platform

Roam Secure, Inc. today announced that the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) will use the Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN) for emergency text-based communications. The Airports Authority operates a two-airport system in the greater Washington D.C. region including the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and the Washington Dulles International Airport. The MWAA will use RSAN EMA to communicate with its employees, including central administration, airports management and operations, and police and fire departments via text.

Through a single interface, authorized MWAA personnel can initiate, receive, and reply to routine or emergency notifications. The RSAN system provides information enabling recipients to take appropriate action in a timely manner via e-mail and any text-enabled wireless device, including pagers, cell phones, BlackBerrys, Treos, and iPAQs. The MWAA can also use RSAN to selectively notify various individuals and/or groups depending on the type of alert being sent out, and the communication priority for the message.

“MWAA is the first major transportation hub in the region to adopt and implement a platform for text-based emergency alerting, that has the capability to be fully interoperable with the National Capital Region’s 18 internal and public systems serving Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Maryland,” said David Drescher, CEO of Roam Secure, Inc. “In light of the recent terror threat at London’s Heathrow Airport, rapid, reliable, anytime, anywhere communication is needed to help monitor and respond to ongoing safety threats. Lessons learned from 9/11, and natural disasters, such as Hurricane Katrina and Rita, proved text worked as a consistently reliable form of communication.

The MWAA RSAN system has the capability to be interoperable with the local governments in the Washington D.C. metro region that also use RSAN on a daily basis to alert their first responders, leadership teams, employees and the public via e-mail and wireless devices. Jurisdictions can communicate both internally, and with one another leveraging equipment already in the hands of their employees. Emergency alerts are delivered in seconds to groups of any size, spanning departments, buildings, jurisdictions and the entire National Capital Region.
