Ameriflight Responds to FAA Civil Penalty

Aug. 29, 2011
Ameriflight is contesting the FAA's findings and opposing the proposed civil penalty.

The Federal Aviation Administration today issued a press release stating that the agency was seeking a $262,000 civil penalty against Burbank, California-based Ameriflight, LLC for alleged drug and alcohol testing program violations.

"Ameriflight replied by certified mail to the agency's notice of proposed civil penalty on August 4th challenging all of the findings and the proposed civil penalty," stated a company executive. "None of the FAA allegations concern an Ameriflight employee who tested positive for drugs and in no case did a company employee perform a safety sensitive function before a negative drug test result was available. Ameriflight's alcohol testing program sampled a percentage of randomly-selected employees in excess of the FAA-required minimum. We are contesting the FAA's findings and are opposing the proposed civil penalty. There is nothing more to this matter than allegations by the FAA of potential recordkeeping discrepancies with no risk to persons or property."

Because the matter is still under consideration by the FAA, it would be inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.

Ameriflight is an air cargo carrier certificated under Part 135 of the Federal Aviation Regulations, which operates more than 170 airplanes throughout the conterminous U.S. and internationally.
