ORLANDO – October 20, 2009 – Today, Crane Aerospace & Electronics, a Crane Co. segment, signed a Letter of Intent with Duncan Aviation, Inc., an aircraft service provider supporting the aviation needs of government and business operators and other service providers. Under the terms of this agreement, Duncan Aviation will support Crane’s effort to secure Supplemental Type Certifications (STCs) for the SmartStem® Wireless Tire Pressure Indication System on business jets.
Crane currently has received STCs for the Cessna Sovereign and Citation X. “This agreement will help to extend the benefits of SmartStem technology to other business jets,” said Nigel Duncan, Aerospace Group Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Crane Aerospace & Electronics. “The wireless system not only improves business jet safety by ensuring accurate tire pressure measurement, but it makes the measurement quick and easy. And, with the new records management software, operators will have electronic documentation of their tire maintenance. By working with Duncan, we will benefit from their expertise and network of service facilities throughout the United States.”
Karl Detweiler, Team Leader Component Sales and Marketing with Duncan Aviation, added, “Duncan Aviation is pleased to work with Crane to expand the use of SmartStem technology in the business jet industry. We have more than 50 years of experience in support of the business aircraft operator. Besides increasing safety, we believe that SmartStem will help make the operators’ maintenance job simpler and faster.”
Using SmartStem wireless technology, the system operates by replacing the aircraft’s existing tire inflation valve stem with a wireless valve stem that senses and communicates tire pressure, temperature, and other stored information to a control unit onboard the aircraft or to a handheld reader. The system will be demonstrated at the Crane Aerospace & Electronics booth at NBAA 2009 (number 2810). Convention attendees are invited to stop by and see how SmartStem takes the pressure.
