Delays on Boeing's 787 Dreamliner Keep Ohio Suppliers Waiting

Suppliers like Cleveland's Eaton Corp., Parker Hannifin Corp., and Brush Engineered Materials left waiting for millions in revenue tied to 787.

As Boeing Co. encounters one delay after another getting its 787 Dreamliner passenger jet to market and airlines cancel orders, Ohio suppliers that were counting on millions in revenue find themselves waiting impatiently for the project to take off.

There's no sign yet that the stalled project means serious financial harm for suppliers like Cleveland's Eaton Corp., Parker Hannifin Corp., and Brush Engineered Materials. But some suppliers say they will be better off once the 787 proves its airworthiness and planes start rolling off the Everett, Wash., assembly line.

The 250-seat Dreamliner, announced in 2003, was envisioned as a fuel-efficient airliner, using composite materials for most of its construction. It is an important plane for Boeing, which competes with a larger European rival, Airbus Industrie, in the long-haul aircraft market.
