ARINC, an international aerospace company based in Annapolis, Maryland, is closing its maintenance facility at the Colorado Springs Jet Center at 5725 E. Fountain Blvd. and will lay off 20 employees by August. The 14,400-square-foot center services and repairs commercial and private aircraft.
In this economy, it is not cost-effective to keep the facility open, said Deb Ridlen, ARINC's human resources representative.
The firm's commercial contracts for installation of navigation equipment on aircraft flying at 29,000 feet or higher are nearing completion. Also, demand for maintenance and repair on private aircraft has declined, she said.
