Innovation, increased efficiencies, new technology and a broader educational pipeline will ensure the U.S. aerospace industry survives the recession and thrives in the future, industry leaders said Tuesday.
"At American, resilience is on our resume because innovation is in our blood," said Bob Reding, American Airlines' executive vice president of maintenance & engineering. "But the thing that truly separates us is that we understand that taking bold steps or striking out for new ground is not only for the good times but is even more important in tough times.
"The history of American Airlines is 80-plus years of zigging when others are zagging — and then watching the rest of the industry play catch-up."
