OSHKOSH, Wi -- Hollywood blockbusters and stirring documentaries will be part of this year's Fly-In Theater at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, presented by Ford Motor Company and supported by Hamilton Watches, which features movies nightly on July 26 through Aug. 1. The 57th annual EAA fly-in convention takes place July 27-Aug. 2 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh.
Among the presenters at this year's films are movie star Harrison Ford, renowned pilots, and other aviation personalities. Ford will be introducing the popular Six Days Seven Nights on Wednesday evening, July 29.
Each evening's presentation at the Fly-In Theater begins at 8:30 p.m., weather permitting. The feature films are shown on a screen five stories tall and are free of charge to all EAA AirVenture attendees. Even free popcorn is included -- all courtesy of Ford Motor Company and supporting sponsor Hamilton Watches. Guests should bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating at the natural amphitheater, located adjacent to EAA's Camp Scholler.
"Thanks to Ford, the Fly-In Theater has become a fast-growing tradition and superb way to finish a full day of flight -- with an aviation movie under the stars at Oshkosh," says Tom Poberezny, EAA chairman/president and AirVenture chairman. In 2009, we are bringing more great aviation films to the event this year, many based on suggestions from EAA AirVenture visitors."
Among the films confirmed for the Fly-In Theater are:
- Sunday, July 26: One Six Right (2005), which celebrates the unsung hero of aviation, the local airport, introduced by filmmaker Brian Terwilliger, and Barnstorming (2009), a new documentary where two pilots relive the nostalgic tradition of planes landing in fields and taking people on first flights. Introduced by producer Paul Glenshaw and director Bryan Reichhardt.
- Monday, July 27: The Right Stuff (1983), the popular dramatization of the America space program's beginnings, starring Sam Shepard, Scott Glenn, and Ed Harris. Guest presenter to be announced.
- Tuesday, July 28: Cloud Dancer (1980), a fictionalized account of aerobatic competition, starring the late David Carradine, Jennifer O'Neill, and Joseph Bottoms. Introduced by EAA chairman/president Tom Poberezny, who was a pilot and technical advisor for the film, and other guests to be announced.
- Wednesday, July 29: Six Days Seven Nights (1998), starring Harrison Ford, Anne Heche, and David Schwimmer. Introduced by Ford, who is also chairman of EAA's Young Eagles program.
- Thursday, July 30: Bat*21 (1988), starring Gene Hackman, Danny Glover and Jerry Reed. Guest presenter to be announced.
- Friday, July 31: X-15 (1961), starring Charles Bronson, Mary Tyler Moore, and David McLean. Introduced by X-15 pilot and NASA astronaut Joe Engle.
- Saturday, August 1: Pearl Harbor (2001), starring Ben Affleck, Josh Hartnett, and Kate Becksinale. Guest presenter to be announced.
The Fly-In Theater is located next to EAA AirVenture's Camp Scholler, at the north end of Doolittle Drive, directly behind the Camp Store.
