KANSAS CITY, MO -- The new Hangar 10 aviation services complex at the Kansas City, MO, Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport (MKC) officially opened for business today and fueled its first aircraft, a Citation Sovereign operated by Cessna Aircraft Company.
Hangar 10, which recently broke ground in January on a 91,000-square-foot unique aviation services complex, is currently operating from a temporary facility located on 10 acres at the Northwest end of the airfield. A new 40,000-gallon fuel farm has been installed and an extensive ramp is in place built to accommodate fully fueled transport sized business aircraft such as a Boeing BBJ.
When completed, the focal point will be a 28,000-square-foot executive terminal designed to be a distinct cultural departure from traditional Fixed Base Operations (FBO). It will feature several pilot overnight rooms that double as day quarters complete with desk, entertainment center, private bath/shower, and a fold-down bed. In addition, transient customers, as well as based tenants and employees, can enjoy a large, fully-equipped fitness center that includes separate men's and women's locker rooms fitted with showers.
The master-planned complex will also incorporate three hangar bays totaling 56,000square-feet, with two of the bays capable of handling Gulfstream 650- and Global Express-sized aircraft.
"In preparing to fuel our first customer, we are excited about offering the Greater Kansas City area our brand of enhanced aviation services," says Brad Chandler, General Manager of Hangar 10. "The owner of Hangar 10, Jim Stowers, has been planning for this day for nearly two years and now we are officially open for business. We look forward to delivering our unique customer-centric experience where if we make a mistake, we will own it and every employee will be empowered to make it right for the customer."
