Spirit AeroSystems filed suit this week against the supplier of 500,000 defective nutplates for Boeing jets. The company is suing SPS Technologies of Santa Ana, CA, and its parent, Precision Castparts of Portland, OR, for more than $75,000.
The companies were one of the suppliers of the nutplates -- small metal fasteners that are used to attach wiring and other components to the inside of fuselages.
According to the suit, Spirit discovered in August that up to 30 percent of its nutplates had not been coated with cadmium to prevent corrosion. It pinpointed the defective parts as coming from SPS.
