Micro Aerodynamics Producing Vortex Generator Kits for Aeronca Sedan

VGs provide greater aileron, rudder, and elevator control at slow and even in stall speeds.

ANACORTES, WA – The FAA has granted an STC to Micro AeroDynamics allowing them to sell vortex generator (VG) kits for the Aeronca Sedan 15AC and S15AC. Among the primary benefits to Sedan pilots are an 8 percent reduction in stall speed, improved aileron authority, and better flight characteristics in slow flight.

The kits consist of 88 VGs, made of 1-inch pieces of 6063-T6 aluminum that are curved and get bonded to the upper wing surface, just aft of the leading edge. Another 38 VGs are attached to the vertical stabilizer and 48 are glued to the underside of the horizontal stabilizer. Included in the kits are complete, illustrated instructions, templates, tools, spares and Loctite Depend adhesive. The average mechanic can install a set of VGs in a day.

Vortex generators have no effect on high speed cruise and do not collect ice. They create air vortices that keep the boundary layer of air attached to flying surfaces at higher angles of attack. This provides greater aileron, rudder, and elevator control at slow and even in stall speeds.
