INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Hal Shevers, founder and chairman of Sporty’s, recently announced the Sporty’s Foundation will sponsor four new recreational pilot training awards for individuals from AEA member shops. Each award, called the Sporty’s Recreational Pilot Certificate for AEA Member Technicians, is worth $5,000 and will be administered through the AEA Educational Foundation.
Mike Adamson, vice president of member programs and education for AEA, said the new awards are to be used by AEA member technicians to achieve their recreational pilot’s certificate.
“The new awards not only encourage more people to fly, but they also benefit the technician, the shop and, ultimately, their customers because the AEA member technician will become a more effective troubleshooter with his or her expanded knowledge of the cockpit,” Adamson said.
Sporty’s has been a long-time supporter of the AEA Educational Foundation. Each year, Sporty’s offers the Sporty’s/Cincinnati Avionics Scholarship for $2,000 through the AEA. In addition, during last year’s AEA International Convention, Shevers announced the Sporty’s Foundation’s first bequest, a $5,000 donation to the AEA Educational Foundation.
