Russia to Develop Its Own FAA

After three airline crashes in 2006 Russia is working on a formal plan to boost aviation safety.

Critics have blamed the crashes on poor training, outdated aircraft and primitive infrastructure. The country's transport minister Igor Levitin has said that in the first half of the year, Russia will draw up a state programme on flight safety.

According to Reuters, Russia also wants to improve pilot training and may buy modern equipment.
