Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE) finished 2016 up 3.98 percent in passenger traffic over 2015.
“The Cleveland market has been stimulated by the lower airfares and variety of airline options to fly out of CLE,” said Airport Director Robert Kennedy. “We’re seeing people and families fly that have never flown before because it’s no longer cheaper and more convenient to drive.”
CLE finished with 8,422,676 passengers for all of 2016, up 322,603 or 3.98 percent over 2015 passenger numbers. The almost 4 percent increase came after the FAA’s Terminal Area Forecast (TAF), the official FAA forecast of aviation activity for U.S. airports, forecasted only a 2 percent increase for the year at CLE. The addition of several new routes contributed to the increase including: American service to Washington Reagan, JetBlue additional flight to Boston, Southwest service to St. Louis and Frontier service to Los Angeles, Portland, San Francisco and Philadelphia.
