Kansas City International Airport Reports 35th Consecutive Month of Passenger Growth

    The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 1,005,082 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in March, a 11.1 percent increase from March 2016. March passenger boardings were up 10.7 percent, with a total of 499,745. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 2,555,874, up 6.2 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 1,274,725, up 6.0 percent.           

    “Kansas City International Airport served more than one million air travelers last month, our busiest March since 2001,” said Kansas City Director of Aviation Pat Klein. “Our airline partners continue to bring larger aircraft to Kansas City, providing the region’s passengers with more available seats to key business and leisure destinations.”

    Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were down 2.4 percent in March with a total of 18.5 million pounds handled. Year to date, 50.5 million pounds have been handled, down 0.1 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during March amounted to 17.7 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year decrease of 5.3 percent. Year to date, air freight is down 2.0 percent with a total of 48.5 million pounds handled. Air mail for March was up 215.0 percent from March 2016 with 781,432 pounds handled. Air mail is up 37.1 percent year to date with 1,971,894 pounds handled.

    The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for March 2017 was 170. Service was offered to 46 nonstop markets. There was an average of 40,222 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported 6 daily departures for March.
