Albany Passenger Traffic Boosted by Winter Weather
March passenger traffic at Albany International Airport increased by 5.3 percent over 2017. Enplanements, the number of passengers boarding aircraft, totaled 126,052, an increase of 6,375 over the previous year.
"We believe the substantial increase in passengers was directly linked to the early Easter vacation break along with this year's long and arduous winter and the desire to seek relief in the form of warmer weather," said John O'Donnell, CEO of the Albany County Airport Authority. "This March turned out to be our strongest March since 2005."
The surge in traffic was also helped by a slight increase in monthly seating capacity by Albany airlines. Two airlines reported a dramatic increase in March traffic. American Airlines saw a 7.7percent increase while Southwest Airlines' passenger volume increased by 7.1 percent during March.
