The Automated Weather Observing System (AWOS), an FAA approved, computer-based system, is developed and manufactured by Vaisala, Inc. Designed to allow airports to relay the most accurate weather information available. Upgrades include: Present Weather Sensor (FD12P), designed to provide real-time reports on precipitation type and intensity; StrikeAlert Thunderstorm Sensor (SA20), allowing pilots to recieve voice reports regarding thunderstorm activity; and, Runway Surface Condition Sensor DRS511 (RSCS), which reports real-time information concerning the runway surface condition; 800-327-AWOS, ext. 223.
