October Traffic Reaches an All-Time High at Kansas City International Airport
The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that 1,077,849 passengers arrived and departed through Kansas City International Airport’s gates in October, a 5.8 percent increase from October 2017 and the largest volume of October passengers in the airport’s history. Passenger boardings were up 6.9 percent, with a total of 537,476 boarded. For the year to date, total passengers in and out total 9,930,090, up 3.1 percent. Year-to-date passenger boardings are 4,968,028, up 3.3 percent.
“Our second consecutive month of record passenger levels further validates the forecasts that are driving the planning for a new single-terminal facility at Kansas City International Airport,” said Pat Klein, Kansas City director of aviation. “As we prepare to begin demolition of Terminal A, I’d like to thank both our airline partners and all of our customers who continue to utilize our airport as their gateway to the world."
Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 8.3 percent in October with a total of 18.9 million pounds handled. Year to date, 176.3 million pounds have been handled, up 3.7 percent. Air freight handled at KCI during October amounted to 18.5 million pounds, which is up 10.5 percent year-over-year. Year to date, air freight is up 4.9 percent with a total of 170 million pounds handled. Air mail for October was down 40 percent from October 2017 with 464,850 pounds handled. Air mail is down 22.8 percent year to date with 5.8 million pounds handled.
The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for October 2018 was 176. Service was offered to 48 nonstop markets. There was an average of 43,547 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day. The all-cargo carriers reported seven daily departures for October.
