Harper Government Celebrates Opening of New Composites Innovation Centre in Winnipeg
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - April 11, 2012) - Today, the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, joined staff and board members in celebrating the grand opening of the new Composites Innovation Centre.
"Our Government is committed to creating jobs, economic growth and prosperity," said Minister Yelich. "I am pleased that our Government's investments in this new facility will assist in the expansion of the aerospace, technology and manufacturing sectors in Manitoba."
Formed in 2003, the Composites Innovation Centre's mandate is to support and stimulate growth through innovative research, development and application of composite materials and technologies for manufacturing industries. The Centre has already made a positive contribution to the development of a composites cluster in Manitoba, helping to advance key industries in Western Canada including aerospace, bio-composites, and ground transportation.
At almost four times the size of the previous facility, the new Composites Innovation Centre features additional research space and a new training room dedicated to industry education. The expansion is helping the Centre to better meet the growing needs of Canadian companies, to ensure they remain competitive on the world market.
The success of the Composites Innovation Centre is made possible thanks to support from Western Economic Diversification Canada totaling more than $10 million.
Western Economic Diversification Canada works with the provinces, industry associations and communities to promote the development and diversification of the western economy, coordinates federal economic activities in the West and advances the interests of western Canadians in national decision making.
