Sherwin-Williams Buys European Coatings Business, Adding More Manufacturing Capability

The company announced recently that it completed its acquisitions of Sika AG, an industrial coatings business headquartered in Switzerland with sales in Poland, Austria and Germany. It first announced its plans for the purchase in August 2021.

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Sherwin-Williams finished its purchase of a European company, adding manufacturing and more products to its footprint.

Approximately 115 Sika employees will join Sherwin-Williams, according to a new release. Sika AG makes and sells corrosion protection coatings systems for steel infrastructure used on bridges, in airports and railroads, power transmissions on many other industries. It also makes fire protection coatings.

Sika AG had the equivalent of about $82 million in sales in 2020.

“This business brings us unique technology and additional manufacturing and services capabilities in line with our strategy of acquiring complementary, high-quality, differentiated businesses that support our growth and profitability targets,” said Sherwin-Williams Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, John G. Morikis in a news release.

Sherwin-Williams, headquartered in Cleveland, is a global paint and coatings business that owns brands like Valspar, Minwax and Krylon along with its own Sherwin-Williams paint. It employs about 60,000 people and has sales in 120 countries around the world.
