2023 AMT 40 Under 40 Maintenance Professional: Michael Green — Global Business Services Manager, AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings
Michael Green at age 15 helped out in the body shop in Georgia his mom has managed for 32 years. Green assisted the painter, scuffed bumpers and helped out where needed, then in his 20s, he started painting vehicles.
His experience painting vehicles and in sales ultimately led him to AkzoNobel. Here he was hired as a key account manager and worked with Advance Auto Parts before transitioning to the AkzoNobel Aerospace Coatings global management team. As the company’s first aerospace global business services manager, Green was brought in to help establish a new business services segment (AkzoNobel Business Solutions).
The first business service offered was Aerofleet Coatings Management. The digital, data-driven service helps airlines and other large operators tailor and optimize their coatings’ replacement and maintenance schedule for individual aircraft. Green, excited about the one-of-a-kind service introduced this year, described coatings management program as a fleet monitoring and predictive maintenance program.
Other business services programs are in the works as AkzoNobel works to find new ways to bring value to customers. “It really comes down to instead of being a paint vendor, we really want to be a partner,” he says.
In the past couple years, Green says he is proud of the team’s ability to create partnerships for the business services program.
Originally, Green had planned to be an FBI agent. He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from The University of Georgia and an MBA from Georgia Tech Scheller College of Business.
