Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Jet Glo Express Achieves Fifth Complete System With SAE AMS 3095 Certification
Andover, Kan. – Sherwin-Williams Aerospace has another complete coating system - including pretreatment, chrome hazard free (CM0483787) corrosion protective primer and topcoat – now certified with SAE International’s Aerospace Material Specification 3095 (AMS 3095). The Jet Glo Express™ exterior coating system is designed for commercial airlines as well as general aviation and military aircraft.
The certification now approves four other separate AMS 3095 qualifications of Sherwin-Williams’ complete painting systems for commercial aircraft - two with alodine pretreatment and epoxy primer systems - one chromated (CM0483928) and one Chrome Hazard Free (CM0481968). It also approves two with the Wash Primer (CM0484646) and Urethane Primers - Chromated (CM0486606) and Chrome Hazard Free (CM0486707). All systems are finished with Jet Glo Express Polyurethane topcoat for global aftermarket use as complete painting systems for commercial airline fleets.
Jet Glo Express has become a high performance, multi-purpose product. It is also qualified to numerous general aviation OEM specifications and is military aircraft-qualified to MIL-PRF-85285, Type I, Class H.
Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings is one of the first major aviation industry paint and coatings suppliers to have a system free of lead and chromate hazards to achieve AMS certification.
“This AMS certification expands our presence worldwide in the commercial market,” said Karen O’Hara, Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Global Sales Manager. “We have been one of the market leaders in painting a variety of aircraft in the general, business jet and military aviation markets since the 1940s and have built a strong reputation on our service, technology and superior products.”
More than 2,500 SAE Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS) are recognized throughout the aerospace community and other industries, including the U.S. Department of Defense, which has adopted more than 900 of these documents into its standards. These AMS specifications are procurement standards rather than design specifications. AMS 3095 covers high-gloss paints for use on civil aircraft.
According to O’Hara, a quality paint job not only protects the plane, it also boosts an airline’s brand image. “An attractive, well-kept fleet is an airline’s best advertisement. High-quality coatings last longer, stay more vivid and offer easy maintenance and repair in comparison to lesser-quality products. All coating products and systems that receive AMS 3095 certification have undergone stringent testing and demonstrate that Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings systems will deliver a lasting protective coating for any aircraft in a commercial fleet,” O’Hara said.
Sherwin-Williams Aerospace Coatings provide the finest in quality coatings, but also deliver custom solutions for commercial aircraft, including a full-range of specialized livery color options in a line of products for an outstanding, durable finish. Additionally, its widespread global distribution network dramatically speeds up the custom order process so that they can now be delivered and applied within only a few days.
