2024 AMT Top 40 Under 40: Ian W. Goben

Aug. 20, 2024

Ian Goben has chosen to excel in all aspects of general aviation by earning his pilot certificate, airframe & powerplant certificate, commercial certificate, and graduating top of his class in record time. Goben exemplifies what can be achieved through hard work, attention to detail, a safety mindset, and a true love of all things aviation.

“I was fortunate to grow up living on a private airstrip, Sky Meadows Airpark WN92. My Bedroom window was approx 500 feet from the runway, Goben said. “I have always been mystified by the ability to soar through the skies and the machines that allow us as humans to do that.”

His qualifications include:

Private Pilot (August 2019, Big Bend Community College Part 141)

High-Performance, Complex Endorsement (March 2021, BBCC Part 141)

Airframe & Powerplant Certificate (June 2021, BBCC Part 147)

Instrument Rating (August 2021, BBCC Part 141)

Commercial Pilot (December 2021, BBCC Part 141)

Maintenance Shop Manager (October 2023, Bergstrom Aircraft, Inc. - youngest in the company's 53-year history)

Inspection Authorization (July 2024, application pending)

Upon completion of his IA, Goben will step into the role of Director of Maintenance at Bergstrom Aircraft, Inc. Time and time again, Goben has demonstrated maturity beyond his years, going above and beyond for his customers and coworkers. He continually broadens his knowledge base through research, staying updated with industry news and best practices, connecting with mentors and peers, and working alongside very experienced and award-winning maintenance professionals.

As an active pilot, Goben uses aviation to share knowledge and participate in regional career fairs and aviation events. Everything Goben does is focused on supporting and growing the aviation industry, making him a standout professional and a true asset to his field.
