Robert Moore
Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor
American Airlines at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport
Age 26
One person can have a positive impact on many people. Understanding that, Robert Moore earned a Bachelor of Science in Aviation Maintenance Sciences with a Maintenance Management emphasis.
His career goal is simple, yet not easily accomplished: Be a good supervisor and promote an atmosphere for good work to be performed.
“If I can come to work and have a 1% improvement on someone’s day, to me that’s a great day,” he said.
After graduating from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 2020, Moore worked at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) as an aircraft mechanic for FEAM Aero, maintaining CRJs,
He then worked as an aircraft maintenance technician for Delta Air Lines, performing overnight line maintenance on various aircraft at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA).
Looking for a leadership position, Moore took a hybrid job as a maintenance representative with Air Transport International at San Bernardino International Airport.
But when he had the opportunity to again work at DCA, he took it.
“Being offered the role as Line Maintenance Supervisor just before my 26th birthday was an unbelievable sense of accomplishment after graduating from Embry-Riddle just 4 years prior, in the heat of the pandemic,” he said.
Working as an overnight supervisor for American Airlines has given him the chance to solve problems that he had dreamed of solving in college.
American recently rolled out a new electronic aircraft maintenance log system. One of Moore’s responsibilities is helping floor mechanics learn how previous practices using a physical logbook translate into the new electronic system.
Whether people are interested in turning a wrench or management, Moore encourages them to join the industry by showing them how much passion there is in aviation. “No one gets their A&P because they want to get rich,” he said. “They catch that metal tube fever that we’re all bit by.”
