The 2 People Who Died in Mount Pleasant Plane Crash Were Myrtle Beach Residents: Coroner
The two people who died after a small plane crashed near Mount Pleasant Regional Airport were Myrtle Beach residents, according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office.
Glenn Lamb, 68, and Michael Gigliobianco, 70 died from injuries sustained in the Thursday night crash, the coroner’s office stated in a news release. They were pronounced dead on scene.
Lamb and Gigliobianco were the only people on board, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said in a statement earlier Friday. The aircraft crashed in a wooded area near the runway of the airport around 9 p.m., according to multiple reports.
“Air traffic controllers lost contact with a light sport aircraft as it was approaching Mt. Pleasant Regional Airport in South Carolina at about 10:30 p.m.,” Bergen said in a statement.
The air traffic controllers issued an alert notice immediately, Bergen said, and officials began searching for the plane. Officials did not say where the plane was flying from.
The search for the missing plane began again at sunrise after crews searched overnight, WCSC reports.
The Mount Pleasant Regional Airport is northeast of Charleston, between U.S. 17 and the Wando River.
“The FAA will investigate and the National Transportation Safety Board will determine probable cause of the accident,” Bergen said.
