L3’s Lynx NGT-9000 Selected by Westwind Helicopters as the ADS-B Solution for Its Gulf of Mexico Fleet
SARASOTA, Fla., March 8, 2017 – L3 Aviation Products announced today that the Lynx® NGT-9000 has been selected by Westwind Helicopters as the ADS-B solution for its Bell 407 transport helicopters operating onshore and offshore in the Gulf of Mexico to support oil & gas operations. Installations of the Lynx units are underway, ahead of the 2020 ADS-B mandate. In addition, the Westwind rotorcraft fleet includes the Bell 206, Sikorsky 76 and MD 500, which will all be equipped with the Lynx NGT-9000+ active traffic option.
L3’s Lynx NGT-9000 is the first ADS-B touchscreen transponder to offer a software suite of NextGen situational awareness features, including traffic and weather data. The unit displays NEXRAD graphical and textual weather information, as well as moving maps. Up-to-the-minute Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs), Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs), and Winds and Temps Aloft data are also included.
“Westwind selected our Lynx solution for its easy-to-use single touchscreen interface with traffic, weather, airport and other airspace data,” said Larry Riddle, L3 Aviation Products’ Vice President of Marketing and Sales for General Aviation (GA). “We are excited to partner with Westwind to equip its Gulf fleet with a highly advanced ADS-B solution.”
“Westwind Helicopters is excited about our partnership with L3 Lynx, and we believe that the installation of the L3 Lynx NGT-9000 systems not only allows us to become compliant with the 2020 ADS-B mandate, but also provides pilots another level of safety,” said Robert McCoy, President of Westwind Helicopters. “This system will give our flight crews the additional situational awareness they need while operating in the sometimes harsh environment of the Gulf of Mexico.”
The NGT-9000 is a turnkey solution for rotorcraft operators who need to replace aging transponders and achieve ADS-B compliance. L3 Aviation Products holds an Approved Model List Supplemental Type Certificate (AML-STC) for Part 27 rotorcraft for the installation of its entire Lynx line of ADS-B products. The Lynx product line is certified for several helicopters manufactured by Agusta, Airbus Helicopters (Eurocopter), Bell Helicopter, Enstrom, MD Helicopters, Robinson and Sikorsky.
