Amy’s Ice Creams Lands at Austin Airport, Joins Hat Creek Burger Company in West Food Court
A giant paper airplane design soaring 25 feet over the new Amy’s Ice Creams location at the Austin airport marks the return of a customer favorite in the West Food Court. After renovations, the Austin based ice cream company has reopened its airport location and joins Hat Creek Burger Company, Flyrite Chicken Sandwiches, and East Side Pies. All four new restaurants are located across from Gate 21.
With the 30 foot long and 14.5 foot wide suspended plane serving as the venue’s canopy, Amy’s Ice Creams is open Sunday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 pm. and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays.
With their most famous Mexican Vanilla, Oreo and Belgian Chocolate flavors, Amy’s is also serving other tasty flavors such as Sweet Cream, Strawberry, Coffee, Zilker Mint Chip, Honey Butter, Vegan Mexican Vanilla and a Raspberry Lemonade made with ice. Serving sizes range from tiny to large with a lengthy list of crushed or drizzled toppings such as hot fudge, chocolate chips, marshmallows, ginger snaps, gummi bears and cookie dough. Smoothies and shakes are also on the menu for an on-the-go option.
Hat Creek Burger Company started small as an Austin food truck and now has opened over nine locations in the Austin area including the Austin airport. Hat Creek Burger Company serves fresh never frozen beef and homemade sauces from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Hat Creek’s menu includes specialty burgers such as the Sombrero with double-served pepper jack cheese, jalapeño, grilled onion, Yellowbird Hot Sauce, or the Cowboy Hat with double-served shredded cheddar cheese, bacon, red onion, pickles, and barbeque sauce. Chicken sandwiches such as the bacon cheddar or the grilled onions and Swiss cheese are also on the menu with the option to make your sandwich or burger Skinny by having it wrapped in lettuce or in a bowl.
Hat Creek also serves a filling breakfast menu with options such as the Rise-n-Shine Platter with eggs, potatoes, toast, and bacon or the Brekkie Bowl with bacon or sausage, potato, tomato, spinach, cheese or grilled onions along with the option to add avocado. They also have an easy selection for the kid's menu with Tiny Hat sliders, grilled cheese, and 3 Piece Flashers also known as chicken tenders along with side options such as tots, fries, and a fresh fruit cup. Fresh salad is served as well as the Cobb Salad with grilled chicken, fresh spring mix, grape tomatoes, chopped bacon, boiled egg, and bleu cheese or the Berry Salad with grilled chicken, fresh green spring mix, strawberries, almonds, and feta cheese.
As part of the West Food Park, Amy’s and Hat Creek joined Flyrite Chicken Sandwiches, that serves five crispy chicken sandwich options such as the East Side that has cucumber yogurt sauce or the large Club 512 sandwich that has pepper jack cheese and some savory avocado salsa. A veggie sandwich can also be an option and seven sauce options with a few spicy selections such as Sriracha Mayo, and Spicy BBQ.
Flyrite opens at 5:30 a.m. daily with a breakfast menu with taco options such as the unique Chicken & Waffle option that has a chicken tender served in a house-made waffle. Along with tacos on the breakfast menu, they also serve egg, cheese, and sausage or bacon sandwiches with tots or fresh fruit as a side. The tortillas can even be substituted for a waffle instead to provide a satisfying quick filling breakfast meal.
East Side Pies specialty pizzas are baked to perfection at the airport. Their menu consists of eight specialty pies along with fresh garlic knots and an option to build your own perfect pie. All meat and fresh produce that are used in their pizza pies are sourced from central Texas farmers. The owner, Noah Polk, has plans to expand the menu to fulfill every pie desired while traveling through the Austin airport.
Pizza pies like the Mizza are toppled with bacon, ham, pepperoni, and homemade meatballs. Passengers and staff have a meatless pie option like the Marge with fresh basil and cherry tomatoes or even the Guiche with fresh spinach, green chiles, roasted garlic, sun dried tomatoes, and goat cheese. Build your own pizzas are available with four cheese options, five meat selections, and 13 veggies toppings to choose from. All baked pies are 10 inches around.
