Following the results of January through February 2020, the new airport in Istanbul served 9,879,717 passengers, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.
During the indicated period, 2,360,709 were served on domestic flights, 7,519,008 passengers on international flights.
The ministry noted that during the indicated period 66,649 flights were carried out at the new Istanbul airport, including 16,012 on domestic routes, 50,637 on international flights.
"In January through February 2020, the volume of freight traffic at the new Istanbul airport amounted to 271,964 tons, of which 21,910 accounted for domestic, 250,054 for international flights", the ministry said.
New Istanbul Airport served 52,578 passengers in 2019.
On October 29, 2018, the opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul, which was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Mehmet Jahit Turhan.
Istanbul's third airport is located in the northern part of the city.
