If you are traveling to Canada by plane or train, you’ll no longer need to abide by the country’s strict COVID-19 travel restrictions.
Canadian federal ministers have announced that on Sept. 30, all border restrictions such as required vaccinations, testing and quarantining for international travelers and wearing masks on planes will no longer be mandatory, according to BNNBloomberg. Also, people entering the country after Sept. 30 won’t need to report or monitor any symptoms of COVID-19.
However, travelers coming to the country before Sept. 30 will still need to get tested or quarantine.
The decision to lift the COVID-19 travel restrictions is influenced by the “passing” of the latest wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, The Public Health Agency of Canada still encourages people to wear masks on flights. Additionally, Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos stated that COVID-19 restrictions could still be put in place if needed.
Other changes include: people traveling to Canada will no longer need to take random mandatory COVID-19 tests; unvaccinated Canadians won’t have to isolate when they return to the country and foreign nationals won’t need to have an approved series of vaccinations to enter the country anymore, BNNBloomberg stated.
The ArriveCAN app will no longer be mandatory to travel. However, travelers can still use the app to submit customs and immigration declarations before they arrive at an airport, according to BNNBloomberg.
People traveling via cruise won’t have to provide proof of vaccination or do pre-board tests.
