AAAE Foundation Awards More Than $365,000 in Scholarships in 2017
Alexandria, VA – As students around the country head back to school for the start of a new academic year, the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) is pleased to announce that its educational Foundation has awarded $365,861 to 140 students for 2017, an increase of more than 40 percent from the $261,300 given in 2016. The AAAE Foundation has more than doubled its giving in the past three years.
Since 1989, the AAAE Foundation has provided over $4.5 million in scholarships to more than 2,800 students, making the organization one of the largest supporters of higher education assistance in the entire aviation industry.
“With the new academic year now underway, AAAE and the generous individuals and corporate partners who support the Foundation take great pride in knowing that we will help a significant number of deserving students take steps toward achieving their educational and career goals,” AAAE President and CEO Todd Hauptli said. “These impressive scholarship totals for 2017, made possible by increased financial support for the Foundation and AAAE’s expanding business operations, show the value our members and partners place on investing in the next generation of talent for our industry and our nation.”
AAAE offers five types of scholarships through the AAAE Foundation to full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are attending U.S. accredited colleges or universities. Eligible students include Accredited Airport Executive members of AAAE and their spouses or children; students sponsored by Accredited Airport Executive members of AAAE; students enrolled in aviation programs with a junior class standing or higher and a minimum GPA of 3.0; Native American college or university students enrolled in an aviation program with a junior class standing or higher and a minimum GPA of 3.0; and female college or university undergraduate students with a junior class standing or higher or graduate students who are enrolled in an aviation program and have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
The AAAE Foundation Scholarship for Women in Aviation, which made its first award last year, doubled its giving in 2017 with two $5,000 scholarships. A full list of the specific scholarships and eligibility requirements is available online.
