In a hotly contested bid over which company would supply the latest batch of solid state 90kVA FEGP, (fixed electrical ground power), converters to London Heathrow Airport, UK manufacturer Powervamp Ltd was selected to supply an order of 22 of its latest PV90-3 frequency converters for stands 209, 210, 211, 212 and 213 at the worlds busiest airport.
In a move which follows an earlier order placed by Heathrow with Powervamp last year that brought an end to a monopoly situation, this second multiple order is conformation of the reliability and performance of Powervamps all British design.
The product, manufactured at Powervamps Luton UK factory, is fast becoming the converter of choice at Britain’s major airports with Heathrow, London City, Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Edinburgh all selecting Powervamps PV90-3 frequency converter over competitors products.
With Heathrow operating continuously at maximum capacity, reliability and durability were key issues in the selection of Powervamps PV90-3 FEGP units. The product has already proved itself under extreme testing and demonstrated its ability to handle severe and extended overload situations.
“While miniaturisation and value engineering may be good for margins,, when an unexpected situation demands a period of sustained high power or overload, (as we witnessed at Heathrow during daily wide body maintenance), design philosophy of being able to maintain full load for an extended period puts us in front,” company founder and Chairman Richard Roller commented.
Unlike some manufacturer’s that claim product modularity through the use of individual PCBs, Powervamps PV90-3 converter has a genuine one piece electronics module that can be unplugged and swapped in its entirety in less than 5 minutes.
Some other products require individual PCB swap outs until the fault is found. Apart from requiring a large stock holding of individual boards, it is a time consuming process, which inevitably leads to issues of PCB storage and husbandry.
