Boeing Shanghai Signs First 777 Heavy Maintenance Contract
SHANGHAI, September 25, 2013 – Boeing Shanghai Aviation Services Co., Ltd., (Boeing Shanghai) announced it has been awarded its first 777 heavy maintenance contract through an agreement with Russia-based Orenair. Boeing Shanghai will perform a C-check on one of Orenair’s 777-200ERs in October 2013.
Boeing Shanghai received U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and European Aviation Safety Agency authorization to conduct 777 maintenance services in 2012. The maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company has previously completed several cabin reconfigurations and multiple A-checks on 777-300s for other customers.
“We are glad to become the launch customer for Boeing Shanghai’s 777 heavy maintenance services and are confident they will be able to deliver a high standard of quality. We hope this contract will become a start to our long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation,” said Orenair Airlines General Director Viktor Zyukin.
“This 777 heavy maintenance service agreement is another major step forward in our capabilities expansion strategy,” said Dermot Swan, CEO of Boeing Shanghai. “Orenair is one of the leading operators in Russia and we look forward to a long-term relationship with them.”
In aviation, an A-check typically is an overnight scheduled check and maintenance of specific components and systems. A C-check is considered a “heavy maintenance” procedure that takes the airplane out of service for several days at a hangar, requiring extensive equipment and skills.
Orenair is an international airline with headquarters in Orenburg, Russia. The airline provides scheduled service throughout Russia and charter transportation to destinations in Europe, Asia and Africa. Currently the airline operates three 777-200ERs and 21 Boeing 737-800s and -400s.
