June 16, 2017
Avianca Brasil announces the debut of daily nonstop passenger flights between São Paulo (GRU) and Miami (MIA), starting Friday, June 23, 2017.

MIAMI (June 2017) – Avianca Brasil, one of Brazil’s largest and fastest-growing airlines, announces the debut of daily nonstop passenger flights between São Paulo (GRU) and Miami (MIA), starting Friday, June 23, 2017. This much-anticipated summer launch marks the airline’s first introduction of a passenger route to a U.S. destination and only its second outside of South America. Avianca Brasil has operated freighter service at Miami International Airport since 2015

Flights will be serviced by Airbus A330-200 aircraft, which seats 238 passengers and is configured into two classes of service: 32 seats in Business and 206 in Economy.

“At Avianca Brasil, we are experiencing an exciting transition and new cycle of growth. We are building a stronger, more mature and more competitive carrier,” said Frederico Pedreira, President at Avianca Brasil, which is a member of the prestigious Star Alliance. “Due to the large concentration of Brazilians visiting and living in South Florida, we decided to launch long-haul operations at this time because we understand that there are good business opportunities and a chance to provide high quality services to international travelers.”

Avianca Brasil boasts the youngest fleet in Latin America and is known for providing superior service, ample legroom, individual entertainment systems, free meals and an Amigo loyalty program.

Business class customers are offered an enhanced experience including premium menus and amenity kits. The 1-2-1 seating arrangement ensures greater privacy and comfort; seats recline to a fully flat position. At their disposal, premium travelers enjoy an advanced on-demand entertainment system, with a wide variety of movies, TV series and games, viewable on 15-inch touch screens. The seats also feature control panels, auxiliary lighting, support tables, USB connection, power outlets and adjustable head rests.

In Economy, which is configured in a 2-4-2 arrangement, passengers can take advantage of individual entertainment systems equipped with 9-inch touchscreen monitors, plus remote controls, power outlets, USB ports, and adjustable head and foot rests. New jets also feature the latest LED ambient lighting technology, designed to provide a comfortable travel experience.

The first Miami-bound flight, Flight 8510, leaves Sao Paulo (GRU) Friday, June 23, 2017 at 11:55 p.m., landing at MIA at 7:25 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2017.  Flight 8511 departs MIA at 7:30 p.m. June 24, arriving in Brazil at 5:00 a.m. Sunday, June 25 (local times). Later this summer, the company plans to launch a Sao Paulo – Santiago passenger route with the new A330 planes.

MIA currently serves an average of 71 weekly non-stop passenger flights to eight cities in Brazil, which is the most of any U.S. airport.  Avianca Brasil will be the airport's third airline serving Brazil, MIA's top international market in 2015 with more than 2.1 million total passengers.

“We are honored that Avianca Brasil has chosen to expand its operations at MIA, and also make Miami its first passenger route outside of South America,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Director Emilio T. Gonzalez. “While we continue to pursue routes in untapped regions across the globe, we are also working to strengthen air service in our stronghold areas of Latin America and the Caribbean.”
