Tyler Curry serves as a project manager and sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) manager for Burns & McDonnell’s commercial aviation fueling team. Since joining the company as a civil engineer, Curry has progressed to leading a diverse array of large-scale fueling projects across the nation, including the $300 million fuel storage and distribution program at San Diego International Airport (SAN). His technical expertise and strategic oversight have driven the program’s success, incorporating innovative solutions such as phased terminal hydrant systems, advanced refueler loading facilities, and sustainable installation techniques. This comprehensive approach has modernized SAN’s fuel infrastructure, positioning the airport to meet future demand and sustain long-term operations.

“We have great clients with airline fuel supply and management teams throughout the country. Seeing their projects and long-term plans come to fruition excites me,” he said. “Also, knowing that what we do matters. Often overlooked, and rarely considered, is how and what goes into providing quality fuel at airports and making sure it gets to the aircraft. These fuel systems are a critical part of the intricacies of airport operations which allow for people to depart on time and arrive home safely.”

Beyond San Diego, Curry manages fuel improvement projects at Austin-Bergstrom and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airports, furthering his impact across critical U.S. airports. Known for his collaborative style, Curry engages with airport authorities, airlines, permitting agencies, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution. His extensive experience in fueling infrastructure, from truck loading and hydrant systems to tank repairs and facility assessments, showcases his ability to lead complex, multi-stakeholder projects.

Curry’s commitment to the industry extends to championing SAF, as evidenced by his recent presentation at the AAAE South Central Chapter conference, where he addressed industry myths and infrastructure needs for SAF adoption. As a mentor, he supports new assistant project managers, sharing best practices and industry insights. Dedicated to community involvement, Curry also supports local charities and coaches youth sports. His technical leadership, commitment to sustainability, and mentorship make him a key figure in advancing sustainable fueling practices in the aviation industry.
