HNTB Selected To Provide Architectural and Engineering Services at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport
The City of Austin, Texas Aviation Department has awarded HNTB a contract to serve as airport principal architect/engineer on Phase 1 of the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Expansion and Development Program.
Under the agreement, HNTB will establish overall design guidelines of the program, including enhancements to the passenger experience and the vision for future design of AEDP facilities. Major elements of Phase 1 are a new 20-gate midfield concourse, a tunnel connecting the midfield concourse to the existing concourse and terminal, as well as various airside and landside improvements and projects that prepare for expansion to the airport’s terminal. The firm also will support other elements to improve signage and wayfinding, baggage handling, sustainability and security.
“We are honored for the opportunity to partner with Austin Airport as they develop their future to better support passengers and aviation partners,” said Julie Wienberg, AIA, HNTB aviation architecture national practice leader and project manager for the firm’s contract with Austin Airport. “With passenger traffic through Austin-Bergstrom International Airport expected to significantly increase in the coming years, this initial phase of the redevelopment and expansion program is a vital step to implementing a long-term strategy for sustained growth.”
The win at Austin Airport adds to HNTB’s portfolio of services to airports across Texas. This includes serving as program manager/construction manager for facilities at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, as well as on-call planning services for Houston Airport System, including planning for the Mickey Leland International Terminal Redevelopment Program at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.
